Review: Grendel's Guide to Love and War

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
It's always a good sign when I open a book and it takes less than five minutes to make me laugh...I really enjoyed reading this! (4.5)
Thank you NetGalley for providing an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It's always a good sign when I open a book and it takes less than five minutes to make me laugh... and Grendel's Guide surely did! (Way too many times and way too loud! I've seen my friends stare at me like I had five heads while I was reading this.)
It was funny, warm, and hilarious with random face palm moments (on my side.) Oh, don't get me wrong , the story is not all fun and games. The author had a great balance between the 'OMG these kids are crazy' and the 'I need a hug now' moments and that made the story real. It has its warm deep moments that will make you reflect on Tom Grendel's situation and his level caring and respect towards others (including his crazy Senior-aged neighbors.) There are many characters in this story that hit close to home (including Tom Grendel and his Dad) and this might be one of the reasons I'll clutch this book close to my heart for a long time.
In general, I truly truly enjoyed it and found it extremely refreshing.
This is definitely in my 're-read' list and one I would recommend.
PS. Tom Grendel made it to my Literary Boyfriends List.
(Yeah, don't look at me like you've never heard of such list. I bet you have one too!)
