Review: Caraval

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
The world of Caraval itself was mysterious and intriguing enough to pull me in. I wanted to learn more about it and the man who runs it : LEGEND. If you like to analyze, puzzles, and trying to figure out the who and the what and when of the stories, Caraval is your read. It may confuse you and at some point you might be asking yourself questions like 'what is life?' (you've been warned!)
Without trying to give anything away, I did enjoy the writing. Emotions were described in colors and tastes as emotions. Interesting. I think the author achieved this in a lovely way.
*** THE FOLLOWING IS KINDA SPOIL-E SO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK***
There were a few things that turned me off . The story of Caraval was great, but I think that the relationship between two characters (not giving anything away! read the book) was a little bit cliché. I think that by the end Garber was trying to rescue them from the cliché... but, hmmm...
It was a little bit hard for me to rate this. In my opinion a 3 star book = good!, a 4 star book = great! and this book is stuck in the in-between . So a three it is due to what I mentioned above, BUT it might change any time. Let's wait until the second book comes out. I REALLY want to meet LEGEND. I spent half of the time mentally pointing at characters and yelling at them: 'YOU MUST BE HIM!!!'
Separate from the story, I read Garber's notes in the back and actually warmed my heart and it filled with drops of hope. She basically wrote: NEVER GIVE UP YOUR DREAM!

(aka. spoiler ahead!)
I found out that this book is a duology. It better be ! Cause I don't trust this ending! In fact, I don't trust anyone not even the beautiful man that promised not to lie anymore. Oh, he will lie dear! I know it! In fact he was lying you then!
