Review: Snow & Rose
One thing you should know about me: I love reading folktales... Brother's Grimms, Russian Folktales, Irish Folktales... yes, I think you get the picture. I love reading folktales. Lately, I keep seeing a lot of re-writes for popular folktales - which is great- but, there are other stories. That is why I was so excited when I was given an electronic ARC of Snow & Rose by Emily Winfield Martin . It's based on a less known Grimm's Tales - Snow White & Red Rose and I have to say it was cute. The following is my review...

This book was cute and a quick read ! I believe it’s a great introduction to the Grimms Tale - Snow White & Rose Red - to a younger generation. I did enjoy it, but I found myself to wanting to learn more.. more about the characters, the mystery of the shadow and trees. I wanted to learn more about the backstories and the side stories, the author just focused on the base of the story. The characters - Snow and Rose - are quite duo. I like that the author wrote how the girls viewed their mother after certain things happen to the family. The mom and her situation takes part of the story that moves the story around, but at the same time it does not interrupt the flow . I think the situation gives the girl an initiative to be more caring and adventurous. The illustrations - the ones that were available in the arc - were lovely. I can’t wait to see the finish product and see all the illustration. The cover itself is beautiful.
Overall its a cute intro - level middle grade and a great way to introduce a child to the lesser known Grimm’s Fairytales.
