Creative Edition Book Reviews - Artsy-Fartsy Edition
I love crafty things and doing crafty things. Other than reading and writing, every once in a while you may see me playing with words and mixed media. This month, I had the opportunity to review artsy-fartsy books and I am very excited to share my thoughts with you.
I had the wonderful opportunity to review the most wonderful creative books. Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster (Walter Foster Publishing) for a copy of these two book in exchange of an honest review.
1. Modern Watercolor: A Playful and Contemporary Exploration of Watercolor Painting for Mixed-media Artists and Creative Types by
Kristin Van Leuven
I am a sucker for modern watercolor and ... Behold! This book was total Watercolor Porn... and I loved it. OMG! I loved this from cover-to-cover. It is beautiful. Van Lauven's book was clean, organized, and easy to follow. Her techniques and images she used are simple in every way in order to make watercolor pieces possible for the book user.
I personally know the basics of watercolor, but this was a great review and such a source of inspiration. My mother is an artist - watercolor being one of her specialties - and she loved it.
Van Lauven even included a brush lettering chapter - Yes! Her chapters in watercolor flowers was lovely. I enjoyed the roses and open flower techniques.

Overall, this simple, colorful, beautiful book inspired me to give watercolor another try (I'm a brush pen kind of a person. lol) It's a great book for beginners and an awesome reference (and inspiration book) for those in the advanced level.
This cute book is definitely for someone who wants to take their lettering skills to the second level. Luiz includes practice sheets with calligraphy beyond the basics - from thin strokes to modern. She also included prompts, which I thought were a great way to motivate artists to practice the art and not make lettering practice monotonous.
I enjoyed the chapter of how to digitize lettering. This is great specially for people who don't have the latest iPad (and Apple Pen.) The chapter includes step-by-step images and narration - which is awesome.
Definitely a book to keep in mind if you are looking for something beyond basic lettering . It's simple and cute!
Once again, thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster (Walter Foster Publishing) for a copy of these two book in exchange of an honest review.
